CSK established their IPL 2025 retention picks by locking in five players which include Ruturaj Gaikwad along with Ravindra Jadeja as well as Matheesha Pathirana and Shivam Dube and finally MS Dhoni.

Under IPL retention rules the team names every cricketer who spent more than five years away from professional play as an uncapped player. The extensive experience of MS Dhoni does not prevent him from being classified as an uncapped player during retention procedures.
