See Where Ads Appear in Templates
Where ads would appear in each template is an important element in understandng them. I would like to be able to see that in the template.

That's very interesting. Thank you for clarifying that. Because some templates (for instance, those with large graphics at the top) seem less friendly to long horizontal ads at the top than others. And on my site, some templates seem to appear with more ads than others, even though I've allowed five ads on any page. But that might be just what I happen to be seeing at any given time.

I would very much like to adjust front page ad locations for any selected template.

Ad positions are completely separate from each template -- meaning there are no fixed ad locations for a template and they are even different from page to page depending on the type of content, content length, user source, etc, etc.
At the current time we test 625 ad position combinations. Ideally, we will be able to come up with a way to let you flip through them all, which would be time-consuming to say the least :), but it's not planned at the current time.
